  3. IRIX 6.5.23 Installation Tools and Overlays, February 2004 README

  7. The IRIX 6.5.23 Overlay CDs contain the miniroot and other components
  8. necessary for booting the system into the basic installation environment.
  9. A "Customer Welcome" document includes installing IRIX 6.5 and other
  10. vital information you should read before you install this release of IRIX.

  12.  To view the Installing IRIX 6.5 pages:
  13.  1. Insert the Installation Tools and Overlays CD 1-of-3 February 2004
  14.     into the CD-ROM drive.
  15.  2. Open a Web browser and enter the following address:
  16.     file:///CDROM/WhatsNew/yourSystem.html
  17.  
  18.     NOTE: Literally type yourSystem.html; do not
  19.           type your actual system name.
  20.  
  21.  3. Click the "Installing IRIX 6.5" link.

  26. Carefully follow the instructions in the CD booklet that came packaged
  27. with the IRIX 6.5.23 CDs. These instructions include how to insert applicable
  28. IRIX 6.5 base and overlay CDs as well as network distribution directories.
  29. This must be done before issuing any "keep" or "install" commands to avoid
  30. unresolvable conflicts.

  32. As a reminder, you may want to check "Caveat and Release Note Updates"
  33. link at  http://support.sgi.com/browse_request/irix_os  for any
  34. late-breaking information.

  37. applications in the unbundled directory, see the "Installing IRIX 6.5"
  38. section of the Customer Welcome document.

  40. The following SGI Legacy MIPS systems are supported in IRIX 6.5.22 and below.
  41. IRIX 6.5.23 and above does not support installation on these systems.
  42.   o Challenge & Power Challenge, Indigo & Indigo2 & Power Indigo2
  43.   o Indy, Onyx1 and Power Onyx
